Safest City to Raise A Child

No matter where you live in America, your children probably enjoy lower crime levels than you did growing up. Statistics from the FBI show that violent crime in the United States has fallen 49% since 1993, and property crime has also decreased 50% during the same period. Many communities strive to provide a safe environment for families, but the cities on this list performed the best according to lead indicators of community safety and quality school systems.

To compile this report, Safewise analyzed four child safety metrics including: violent crimes, property crimes, sex offenders, and high school graduation rates. Cities were excluded from this list if they fell below the population threshold of 75,000 or didn’t submit a complete crime report to the FBI. To level the playing field, violent and property crime rates were calculated per 1,000 people in each city.

“While parents always strive to keep their kids safe, it helps to have a community that’s willing to focus on family-friendly safety initiatives that make the difference. These are the cities across America that make one of the toughest and most rewarding jobs you’ll ever undertake a little less stressful,” says Kaz Weida of SafeWise.
